New Personal Project

StjepanWhile on a recent shoot I started a new long term personal portrait project. People who share a love for the Earth, adventure and the sports they participate in have always fascinated me. Although I’ve been photographing people exploring the natural world for years, for this project I intend to shoot environmental portraits of people who personally inspire me. I hope to photograph two groups of people: athletes who are influential in their respective sports, and outdoor figures who have used their notoriety in an inspirational way or for a greater good.

My first subject in this new project is Stjepan Pavicic, the founder and director of the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race. Stjepan’s intense commitment and dedication to a dream first captured my attention when I initially met him last winter. In 2000 he started the Patagonian Expedition Race to share his love and passion for the region in Southern Chile the race is named after. One of his goals in creating the race was to raise awareness for this delicate and pristine landscape. As the race has gained popularity within the adventure racing community his dreams are becoming more of a reality. I feel privileged to share the portrait of Stjepan above taken in the heart of Patagonian wilderness he cares so deeply for.

As opportunities present themselves I’ll be shooting additional portraits in the future. I have my own list of people I’d like to shoot, but would love to hear who inspires you. Feel free to leave a comment if you have someone in mind.
